Case Study – Matt D

‘‘It has not been a big sacrifice, just a new routine. It has been simple to get the gist of the plan and there is extra information there if you want to dig deeper into the ‘why’s’. I have found lots of new recipes and I am really enjoying my food’. ‘

Diabetes can be about more than your health, it can affect your livelihood. Matt had 3 months to retrieve his health and keep his job.

Working in the Maritime industry, Matt (37) was required to pass a health check giving him clearance for safety at work. With a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis and the development of asthma, his check was not passed and he was faced with a reality check instead. The stakes were high and he was given 3 months to retrieve his health and keep his job.

Matt’s HbA1c was over 60. Diabetes is often silent however he was suffering lethargy and felt particularly tired after eating. His weight was a struggle and his blood sugars were making any positive changes difficult. With a strong family history of diabetes, Matt initially sought advice from a nutritionist whilst looking for a programme specifically for diabetes.

With the support of his employer, he joined the Blood Sugar Reset programme. Now on limited duties at work, Matt took on the programme diligently. Whilst focused on reaching the metrics he needed for passing his health check, he was surprised to learn that Type 2 diabetes can be completely reversed and that it doesn’t require big sacrifices. He says that ‘it has not been a big sacrifice, just a new routine. It has been simple to get the gist of the plan and there is extra information there if you want to dig deeper into the ‘why’s’. I have found lots of new recipes and I am really enjoying my food’.

He achieved his goal – a full health clearance from his employer, securing his work at full capacity, for the next 2 years.

Matt has lost 12 kilos in 12 weeks so far and his blood sugars are now in a controlled and safe range. His HbA1c was recently 37 (non-diabetic) and his home testing shows blood sugars have gone from anywhere between 12 and16 mmol/L down to 5 to 7’s mmol/L, bringing him into the healthy blood sugar range.

His medicines continue to be reduced by his doctor and his asthma feels very stable. Matt is now officially non-diabetic and from his ongoing progress and he is confident in the strategies and lifestyle to keep it that way.

With his health restored and his work secure, Matt is looking forward to a positive future, free from Type 2 diabetes.
